STI is a family-owned business that manufactures covers, cages, enclosures, and alarms to help prevent theft and vandalism to fire pull stations, smoke detectors, strobe/horns, keypads, AEDs, exit signs, emergency lights, control panels, motion detectors, CCTVs, clocks, etc. Environmentally controlled cabinets, alarms for exit/entry doors or fire extinguishers, wireless door/doorbell chimes, buttons, alarm/strobe controller. Jack Taylor 1978 Image

It started with a solution to a challenge

The STI story began with a challenge made to Jack Taylor by a Detroit school administrator who wanted to stop false fire alarms. Jack used his expertise in security systems to start designing the solution.

Original Stopper 1979 Image

1979

The Original Stopper®

Jack Taylor focused his creative and innovative capabilities to invent the Original Stopper, named Pull Station Protector (or PSP). The cover helped stop false fire alarms and resulted in the formation of a new company.

1980

Pull Station Protectors Inc.

The company is first named Pull Station Protectors Inc. Jack and Bernadine display products at a Detroit Renaissance Center school administrators show.

STI 1981 Established Image

1981

Safety Technology Corp. is established

Previously named the Pull Station Protectors, Inc., Safety Technology started in a home basement.

Fire Extinguisher Alarm 1982 Image

1982

Fire Extinguisher Alarm is launched

Continuing their mission to protect important devices, STI designed the Fire Extinguisher Alarm. The self-contained alarm still helps alert to unauthorized use of protected extinguishers.

The Exit Stopper® Alarm is launched

The original multifunction door alarm was designed to protect emergency doors against unwanted exits and entries.

1987

STI breaks ground at 2306 Airport Rd.

2306 Airport Rd. still remains the home of STI Corporate Headquarters over three decades later.

STI opens UK office

Born in Canada and raised in England, Founder Jack Taylor played an influential role in the founding of STI in the UK in 1994, opening to service the whole of Europe.

Wire Cages Launched 1995 Image

1995

Wire Cages are launched

Strong and durable, STI's first wire guards were designed to offer a line of defense for smoke detectors and bells. Over time, the cages developed into a complete range of protection for strobes, clocks, exit signs, lights, and more.

Stopper Station Launched 1999 Image

Stopper® Station Push Button is launched

Suitable for most applications, STI launched innovative Stopper® Stations. The original ADA Compliant, multipurpose push button switch.

New molding facility 2009 Image

STI builds a new molding facility at HQ

In house manufacturing provides STI customers with quality polycarbonate covers, buttons, and accessories quickly and efficiently.

A modern revised version of the original Stopper II® cover. The addition of a continuous hinge keeps the cover mounted to the wall.

The expansion of our facilities houses mold and pad printing machines.

STI opens European Distribution Hub

A home away from home, 3,500 miles from Airport Road, Waterford, Michigan, USA to Airport Business Park, Waterford, Ireland; STI acquired a new European Distribution Hub in 2021. Complementing our EMEA office, the Ireland Hub further enhances several operational and strategic improvements enabling STI to better serve the needs of European customers.
